Dear my IDU family…
Assessment of Extent of Damage at Bodija Explosion Site
I visited the site of the sad explosion at Bodija today to assess the extent of damage. I went round all the places and saw all the buildings affected by the explosion. Apart from the human casualties, the destructions that affected houses suffered were unquantifiable. I spoke to some of the affected house owners and I empathized with them.
On behalf of all the indigenes of Ibadan in the Diaspora, I sympathize with the victims of the unfortunate incident. I give kudos to Oyo State Government led by Engr Oluseyi Makinde for promptly coming to the aid of the victims. As we speak, government has provided temporary shelter for the victims whose houses were made uninhabitable by the explosion. On behalf of Ibadan Indigenes in the Diaspora, I say thank you to Oyo State Government.
To those who have been asking me how we can support the injured and those whose houses were damaged, by my assessment and conversations with some of the victims, there’s really no support we can render now since Oyo government has taken over. It’s beyond us to rebuild damaged houses. However, we will keep engaging the people affected so as to know when and how to support them if need be. They deserve our thoughts and prayers now and we will continue to have them in our thoughts and pray for them in good measure.
